Sample week at Toft Alpacas- every year for the past 25 years we annually test the fleeces on the whole herd to monitor the quality and development of the fleeces to isolate those alpacas which grow the finest and most uniform fleece. Density is a hands on assessment. 
As the alpacas we breed have achieved a consistent fineness we have moved in the past five years to taking two samples from each alpaca, Mid Side and Lower Mid Side to monitor the progression of that fineness and consistency towards the extremities of the fleece. With 120 alpacas that’s 240 samples to be taken, bagged and tagged to be sent off to the Laboratory.
