Alpacas need access to fresh water at all times.

Alpacas like all other livestock are vaccinated against clostridia disease on an annual or biannual basis depending of your preferred routine.

Alpacas can be wormed on an annual or biannual basis. At Toft we worm count the faeces and only worm if we think a problem is occurring.

Mature males are always kept separately from the females even if confirmed as pregnant. This is necessary to avoid hyperactive males distressing the females by forcing their advances upon them...

Crias are normally weaned from their mothers at approximately six months by taking them away and placing them in a paddock preferably out of sight of their mothers.

Paddocks need to be kept as clean as possible to avoid fleece contamination with debris faeces etc.

Alpacas are not sold as individuals. The minimum is two alpacas of one sex. Alpacas are a herd animal and if an alpaca cannot see another then it will start to stress out.

Inevitably there are always loads of questions and puzzles to be solved in thinking about these animals. To see them is to know them. At Toft Alpacas we offer a warm welcome to the interested newcomer and the established breeder alike. If we can't help I'm sure we will know someone who can. Don't hesitate to contact us if you want to know more or you have a question that is niggling or if you want to just come and mingle with the animals a while and see if you get on.

Toft Alpacas will gladly offer free advice to prospective owners covering all aspects of alpaca management, and offer a comprehensive after sales support service to their clients.

No pressure, no hassle, we let the animals do the talking.
