Introductory day births to order...

Born in the rain
A very lucky day with the weather last Saturday 14th on our alpaca introductory day. Overall we managed to dodge the worst of it and ended the day ahead with splendid sunshine.... but oh what an embarrassing gaff early on...
There I was in the Brick barn looking out over our fields which were being thoroughtly drenched in rain, telling all on the course how alpacas have some flexibility in their birthing time, how if the weather is bad they hang on until it's dry etc. And what happens the minute it stops raining and we step outside? I spot a cria way down the bottom of the hill in our birthing paddock which had obviously been delivered in the pouring rain. 'twas ever thus.
I might have been a bit embarassed but everyone on the introductory day was delighted with our arranging a birth especially for their attendance. Such was the fun and excitement around the event that Shilrey has decided to call the beautiful little girl
Raindrop. Well you would wouldn't you? Mother and babe are doing fine and the people on the introductory day returned home with a camera full of Bambi moments. To be fair I did say in my talk that if it was overcast and rain was imminent for long periods then they can't hang on forever but it is rare we have one born in an absolute downpour. Honest!
