THE BOYS WIN AGAIN IN 2009

10/5/2009 12:00:00 AM

Who would have thought it? For the second year on the trot the boy cria outnumber the girls. With 48 on farm births this year the boys outnumber the girls by  10, but Oh what boys. Our stud males have excelled themselves with this years crop . We have had some of the stongest cria we have ever had with some of our pure accoyo  offspring bouncing out at 10.5kg and standing four square to the wind within minutes on legs that would do a dining table proud. A few more girls wouldn't go amiss but when they come out in stunning colours and with fleeces to die for who's complaining.

Last years crop of boys have grown out really well and decision time is looming as to who will go on to father the next genearation and who will serve someone as company or protection. It seems a crime that we have sold as pets this year alpacas that we would have bought, not three years ago, as stud males such is the strides we are making with out breeding. We remain baffled as to why more breeders are not seeking out our herdsires especially with  biosecurity and disease control likely to cause havoc with long distance mobile matings.

All is well to date and we seem on track to repreat the 100% survival of last season. We have one late birth still to come until we reveal the final score. Let's hope this last one is a girl.
